Assistive Technology

There are many students in the San Juan BOCES service area who have disabilities that interfere with their communication, learning, social relationships, mobility, and active participation in the classroom setting. These students are potential users of Assistive Technology-any number of devices that are used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of children with disabilities.

San Juan BOCES has a local Assistive Technology Loan Bank as well as the ability to request items from the State Loan Bank. Items in both Loan Banks are available for a monthlong checkout period to allow IEP teams to trial equipment with students prior to making purchase decisions. Equipment in the Loan Banks includes iPads, augmentative communication devices, touch screens, adaptive keyboards, switches, as well as other technologies. Links to request items from either Loan Bank are on this page.

For some students, AT is the lifeline that provides them with equal access to information and learning in the classroom and the world.
