CTE Mission
The mission of the Career and Technical Education program is to prepare our area high school students for transition to college career programs and/or entry into technical careers following high school, along with successful completion of high school in a high quality learning environment.
San Juan BOCES seeks to expand and enhance the Career and Technical Programs available to our area students by working collaboratively with area schools to offer the highest quality educational opportunities.
Colorado Perkins Funding
The San Juan BOCES serves as the administrative unit for the Colorado Perkins funds that are distributed to our member districts. Perkins funds help funds CTE programs in our service area. Southwest Colorado CTE Consortium
On April 8th, 2008 we met to draft the Southwest Colorado Region 9 CTE Consortium resolutions Shortly thereafter, we presented to the SW Colorado school district boards. Six months later, all identified districts have received approval by their boards to be involved.
Currently, we have the following recommended representatives:
- Ed Rice, Cortez School District
- Bev Degraw, Bayfield School District
- Brian Hanson, Mancos School District
- David Hamilton, Archuleta School District
- Kim White, Silverton School District
- Qwinn Swope, Dolores School District
- Priscilla Huston, Durango School District
- Lisa Wegner, SW BOCES
- Steve Otter, San Juan BOCES
The initial goals of the SWCOCTEC will be:
- Clarifying the Post-Secondary opportunities available to all schools
- Ex. Bayfield Fire Science and Silverton SJC Online Vet Tech.
- Document Mission, Goals, and Purpose of group, create a financial outlook
- Perkins Five-Year Plan sharing
- Integrating Academic and CTE Skills and Knowledge
- CTE programs accessing student achievement data to assist in core academics through hands on skills.
- Identification of Early Career Planning Curriculum
- At least one event that allows for collaboration of individual instructors and school counselors. (professional development)
- Involvement in the PCC/SJBTC proposed merger talks
